The 2009 Western Australia Disability Collective Lecture
by The Hon Bill Shorten, MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children’s Services
Mr Shorten will speak on the human rights and social justice aspects of the National Disability Strategy, particularly in light of Australia’s recent ratification of the International Convention on human rights and disability.
Elected as the Labor member for Maribyrnong on November 24, 2007, Bill Shorten was also appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children’s Services by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
On 25 February 2009, the Prime Minister allocated to Mr Shorten the additional responsibility of Parliamentary Secretary for Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction.
This lecture is co-sponsored with the Western Australian Disability Collective, a local collective working for justice for people with a disability through education, action and community campaigns.
The lecture is free and no rsvp is required to attend.
Lecture Details
When: 6 August at 6.00pm
Venue: Social Sciences Lecture Theatre, UWA. The lecture theatre is accessible, has an audio loop and an auslan interpreter will be provided.
The nearest carpark is P3 off Hackett Drive Entrance 1 and there are ample ACROD bays.
